Holiday tips to keep your carpets looking their best and recover after the Guests!

We at Chem-Dry by the Millers understand that hosting during the holidays can be very taxing, and we want to help you enjoy your holiday season with as little stress as possible, so we are providing the following tips to ensure a happier, healthier, stain-free holiday season:
  • Placing area rugs in high traffic areas, such as entrances to your home, will protect your carpet from unnecessary staining and wear from all the guests entering and exiting.
  • Request that guests take off their shoes upon entering your home because shoes often carry dirt, debris and oils on their soles. Having people take them off should help prevent grime from being tracked over your carpets.
  • Vacuuming before hosting a holiday party will help prevent everyday dirt from accumulating and setting into your carpet, before adding more dirt that may be tracked in from your guests.
  • The likelihood of a spill drastically increases over the holidays. If you do encounter a stain, blot it with lukewarm water immediately to prevent it from sinking into the carpet pad. Use a cloth towel for blotting.
  • Make sure to vacuum immediately after a party to avoid food crumbs from sticking to the carpet and turning into mold and bacteria. Go over the most heavily trafficked carpet areas in several directions to allow the vacuum to pick up all it can.
When the worst does happen and you notice a stain left by your guests, don't panic. Here are a few tricks to removing spots and stains right after they occur:
  • Make sure you do NOT rub it in, use club soda as a stain treatment if you don't have a can of Chem-Drys spot remover
  • Do not pour an excessive amount of water over the stain to “lighten it.” Although this may loosen the stain, it can also cause the stain to sink deeper into the carpet pad, making it harder to get out.
When all else fails,  use Chem-dry's Professional strength spot remover  exclusively available from your local franchise.  If you are in Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Lancaster, York, Delaware, or Berks counties, Feel Free to call us at 1-800-378-4030 or visit our website at www.cdbythemillers.com for more information.

Should I apply Carpet Protection (stain guard) to our carpets?

We often hear this question when someone is having their carpets cleaned by Chem-Dry by the Millers.  The answer is almost always Yes!

Over time and with regular wear, factory applied stain resistants will experience a reduction in effectiveness.  Chemdry carpet protectants refresh the performance of stain resistant carpets, fortifying its ability to resist soiling and staining.

Will the cleaning process remove my existing stain guard.  Yes with some companies who use high PH cleaners and surfactants.  however, Here are Chem dry by the millers we use a near neutral PH cleaner with no surfactants, so your existing stain guard will not be harmed during our cleaning process.  There are some exceptions for example wool area rugs or oriental rugs.  With some area rugs, stain guard can sometimes be released from the fibers with just plain water or foot traffic.  We always recommend to have carpet protection applied to your area rugs every time they are cleaned.

The next generation of outstanding carpet protection is here.  Not only is Chem-Dry's PowerGuard Protectant loaded with acid-dye resistors to provide excellent stain resistance, but its unique polymer base also makes it an excellent protector for solution-dyed carpets like polyester and olefin.  Laboratory tests confirm that PowerGuard mixed with our cleaning solution The Natural, Out performs all other protectants.

Why do we co-apply our stain guard?  Most companies spray their stain guard after they are done cleaning, not giving you complete coverage of the stain guard.  This also adds drying time to the process.  Here at Chem Dry we have a unique system that allows us to mix our carpet protection in with our cleaning solution.  As we clean the stain guard bonds to the carpet fibers providing you a much more complete barrier to give you even better performance making your carpets last longer.  An added benefit is there is no additional dry time when stain guard is applied with our system.

Feel free to visit our web site at www.cdbythemillers.com for more information or if you would like to request and estimate.

Professional carpet cleaners filtration line(Black Edges) removal service from Chem-Dry by the Millers

What are those black lines (or light if you have a black carpet) along your baseboards?  They are called filtration lines.  This often causes confusion among customers as to why they are occurring, how to prevent them, and how to get rid of them.  We often hear from cusotmers who look at them and think their edges of their room need to be vacuumed.  They then try and vacuum and nothing happens.  So what is going on you might ask?

These are called Air Filtration lines.  They are dark edges and lines along the wall, down the stiars, under doorways, or under full length drapes and are found in almost every home.  The cause of these lines is called atmospheric or filtration soiling.

This is caused by concentrated airflow that passes through cracks and crevices along walls, edges of stairwells, or under doorways.  This airflow contains dust, dirt particles and polution that are molecularly smaller in size that soil tracked in by foot from other sources.

This airflow is created by air-conditioning and heating systems, natural airflow currents, and thermal expansion and extraction in your home.

Your carpet acts as a great air filter, unfortunately and absorbs these contaminates causing the lines.

There is not a sure way to prevent the problem from occurring, and sometimes the staining can be permanent.  Fortunately Chem-Dry by the Millers professional stain removal service has a revolutionary product that we have great success with and can remove most of the staining.

In addition, Fabric protectors, such as Chem-Dry's Powerguard can help to make this soil removal easier, but even these products will not prevent the problem from reoccurring.

We recommend discussing the problem with our certified Carpet cleaning technicians to find the best solution for your needs.
